ABOUT BECK ENGINEERINGBeck Engineering Pty Ltd, specialises in mission critical engineering applied mechanics for the mining and oil and gas industries. Our goal is to provide the most reliable, quantitative forecasts of geotechnical and hydrogeological outcomes possible given available data, and to continuously improve the science of design for extractive industries. We do this by developing and applying sophisticated tools to estimate hydromechanical and stability performance in terms that clients can understand, and integrate directly into their operations. Started as Beck Mining Engineering in 2003, the team was founded to foster practical advancements in mine modelling. Step changes in computational capacity had been realised, but the tools for mining problems were not keeping pace. The companies mission was established to satisfy the increasing demand by regulators and the community for higher reliability and accountability in mine design that couldn’t be satisfied using existing simulation toold. Focusing first on simple mechanics, the company pioneered true mine-scale, deformation realistic non-linear Finite Element analysis, and has moved on to develop sophisticated processes for probabilistic forecasting of mine seismicity, subsidence, instability and hydrogeological interactions with gas and oil extraction and mining. Our field verification processes enable us to provide the client with forecasts that can be directly compared to measurements in the field, and continuously improved upon using those measurements. More recently, BEs focus has been on massive scale discontinuum analysis where failure phenomena are more realistically captured across all important scales, full-physics cave simulation from draw to subsidence analysis and fully coupled hydromechanical simulation. These tools offer complex mines and oil and gas fields the opportunity to directly quantify the performance of a model before using it to make decisions, using data everybody understands. The benefits of direct, same language comparison of modeled and measured data are great: Once geotechnical, planning, production and management teams are using the same language and are confident they understand the precision of their forecasts, better decision making and continuous design improvement come naturally. BE are still the only company who specializes in Simulation Aided Engineering for mining and are the main provider of non-linear numerical modelling services to the Australian mining industry. BE currently has offices in Australia in Sydney, Melbourne and Berlin, Germany. |
